No shadows here

Puxtatawney Phil may have seen his shadow, but the groundhogs around here certainly aren't seeing theirs. I think our few days of cold are officially done. The last few days have been 75 degrees with overnight temps in the 40s and 50s.

Even though we're a little sad to see winter go, we had a great time with the snow while we were in Michigan, and it's not so bad to have the warmth for now. We can go running and biking with no jacket and I wore sandals again the other day, so it has its advantages. Also, I have turned off the heat and don't expect to need it again until next November or December. I'm glad we have a few more months of low electric bills before this summer's heat wave!

Here's a bit of background I found about Groundhog Day, from the "official site" no less:)
"Groundhog Day grew out of a mainly German superstition that if a hibernating animal casts a shadow February 2-- the Christian holiday of Candlemas -- winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow is seen, legend says spring will be early."

The kids at school love Groundhog Day, by the way. I don't think I have "celebrated" this holiday since I was 10, but I am back to it now and all the other holidays you only paid attention to when you were in school (i.e. Columbus Day). Those holidays were a little too advanced for the two-year-olds at SLP:)
